Code of Conduct
Oved Apparel group and Five Star Apparel group are firmly committed to the principle that the people who make our clothes should be treated with dignity and respect. To this end, we seek to work with apparel suppliers throughout the world who share our commitment to providing safe and healthy workplaces. At a minimum, we require our suppliers to maintain a workplace environment that complies with local legal requirements and meets universally-accepted human rights standards.
Our Social Compliance Code of Conduct sets forth our expectations for suppliers & provides guidance for dealing with customers, suppliers, other employees, competitors, & the public with integrity and in an ethical & appropriate manner. Our organization respects international social compliance and environmental principles aimed at promoting and protecting human rights and the environment. Our policies are intended to align with the goals of several international standards, including the International Labor Organization’s Declaration on Fundamental Principles and Rights at Work. Social Compliance Standards – Our Code of Conduct
Oved/Five Star vendors and contractors are not permitted to use child labor as defined by local laws and regulations. Irrespective of local law, our vendor will not use workers younger than the age of 15 (fifteen) or the compulsory age to be in school. Our vendors and contractors must also observe all legal requirements for work of authorized minors, particularly those pertaining to hours of work, wages, and working conditions.
Forced or Involuntary Labor
Oved/Five Star vendors are prohibited from using forced or involuntary labor, including prisoners, bonded, or indentured workers.
Harassment and Abuse
All vendors and contractors must treat their employees in a fair manner with dignity and respect. Our vendors must not tolerate or use corporal punishment, threats of violence, or other forms of physical, psychological or sexual harassment and abuse.
Oved/Five Star respects cultural differences. Accordingly, our contractors and vendors are not permitted to discriminate in hiring or other employment practices, including, but not limited to, salary, benefits, advancements, discipline, termination, or retirement, on the basis of race, religion, age, nationality, social or ethnic origin, disability, sexual orientation, gender or political opinion.
Freedom of Association
Vendors and contractors must respect the rights of employees to associate freely, join organizations of their choice, & bargain collectively without unlawful interference.
Health and Safety
Vendors and contractors must provide workers with a safe and healthy work environment that complies with all applicable laws and regulations. Employees must have access to potable water and sanitary facilities, and all workplaces must have adequate fire safety, lighting and ventilation facilities. Residential facilities, if provided to workers, must also meet these requirements.
Vendors and contractors must comply with all applicable environmental laws and regulations.
Inspection and Compliance
Vendors and contractors authorize Oved/Five Star and its authorized agents to engage in inspection activities to ensure compliance with this code of conduct. Such inspection activities may be unannounced or without prior notice and may consist of reviews of applicable books and records as well as private interviews with workers. Vendors and contractors must maintain on-site all documents and records required to confirm compliance with this Code of Conduct. Inspections may take place at the workplace environment, including the manufacturing facility, as well as employer provided housing and related facilities.
Vendors and contractors shall comply with all applicable compensation laws and regulations including those relating to wages, overtime, hours, piece rates and benefits. Overtime shall be paid at the rate not less than required by local law. Except in extraordinary circumstances, employees shall not be required to work more than 60 (sixty) hours per week, including overtime, and shall be entitled to at least one day off in every 7 (seven) day period.
Vendors and contractors shall provide workers with all benefits required by law or regulation including, if required, meals, transportation, health care, child care, and leave for medical, family or religious reasons. As required by law or regulation, vendors and contractors shall make contributions towards workers social security and insurance programs.
Vendors and contractors must comply with all laws and regulations applicable to apparel and related industries including local and national codes, treaties and industry standards relating to employment, health, safety and the environment. Vendors and contractors manufacturing products for sale in USA must also comply with applicable United States laws and regulations relating to imported products including country of origin marking requirements, labeling requirements, and product and fabric testing requirements.
Policy Against Animal Cruelty
Oved/Five Star strictly prohibits the use of real animal fur in all of its products. Oved/Five Star also prohibits the use of animal testing on its products.
Textile Fiber, Wool, and Fur Product Continuing Guarantee
Vendors and contractors guarantee that all textile fiber, wool, or fur products now being sold or which may hereafter be sold to Oved/5 Star & each of it’s affiliates are not, and will not be misbranded nor falsely nor deceptively advertised or invoiced under the provisions of the Textile Fiber Products Identification Act, Wool Products Labeling Act, Fur Products Labeling Act, and rules & regulations thereunder.
Vendor Training and Performance
We provide our vendors a variety of social-compliance training, including orientation at headquarters and overseas locations and web-based training programs on topics like preventing harassment & abuse, underage labor, working hours, and health and safety management.
